For once at a slalom we were blessed with beautiful sunny weather rather than cold driving rain. Saturday morning was spent setting up the course and running all of the wires for the "Tutti" timing and control system. One side effect of the recent spell of dry weather and low lake level has been the rapid growth of pond weed which needed to be cleared out before the race - a big thank-you to everyone who helped out with this unglamorous job! The rest of Saturday was "free practice" with many paddlers having their first go at paddling a proper slalom boat.
Sunday dawned bright and clear and gave paddlers a further chance to practice before the race started at 12 noon. We had a fantastic turn out from MWBC - sixteen club paddlers taking part in the event - with some of them racing in more than one class (e.g. K1, C2) we had over 20 entries from MWBC. There were lots of really good performances with Sam Wright, Chris Thomas and Jan Cassidy all winning promotion to Div 3. Perhaps most important of all was that everyone had a great time and a lot of fun. Thank-you again to everyone involved whether racing, volunteering or supporting. Comments are closed.
