We are planning a club trip to Llangollen over the weekend of 27/28th June 2015. The highlight of the weekend will be a “Paddle for Nepal” event organised by Dave Manby to raise money for the relief effort in Nepal which has been devastated by recent earthquakes. Dave was a member of the 1976 expedition to Nepal to paddle the Dudh Kosi river down Everest.
The main paddle will be from Horseshoe Falls to Llangollen, a Grade 3-4 stretch of river that includes the Serpents Tail and Mile End Mill rapids and finishes with Town Falls in Llangollen. This is a real white water trip and is not suitable for beginners. Paddlers should have some previous white water paddling experience and be comfortable on Grade 2-3 white water.
There is also an easier stretch of river upstream of Horseshoe Falls which might be an option for paddlers who aren't comfortable paddling Grade 3 white water.
